A Lot Has Changed On The T.V Industry In Recent Years as More and More Shows Are Coming Online or Created Specifically For Streaming Subscription Services Like Netflix. Cable networks and similar companies are trying to appeal to an audience with a growing number of content and entertainment, an audience that is much more difficult to capture.
Despite all this, there are several things that have not changed much - most consumers are still navigating through a grid of channels and programming with a remote control that is static, that was created for a type of watching television than consumers took part in there for over a decade.
A new product called the super Remote Ray is designed to change all that. The device takes the form of a universal remote touch screen and takes all the ease and simplicity of a mobile OS, including applications and customization, it brings to the television industry.
Ray is supposed to replace all the different remotes that consumers may have in their households. This is not exactly a new idea, as you know, universal remotes have been around for years. The difference is that Ray hopes to bring a form factor and some capabilities that have never really been available before.
For starters, Ray remote control has a number of different ways to connect to devices in the living room, including WiFi, Bluetooth, Infrared and Zigbee protocols. Allowing it to control high definition televisions, DVRs, set-top boxes, game consoles and streaming video players.
Instead of messing around with a bunch of buttons, Ray has a 4.8 "touch screen that makes it easy for users to search and discover content available on live TV and DVR and other services . the video also take different applications for different input devices and content types - ie live, DVR, video streaming, etc.
While Ray remote control is designed to operate as a standalone device, the company behind it tries to associate with pay-TV providers to unlock certain features would not be able to enjoy otherwise. The first is to support the dish, which will allow the super to work remotely with his Ray Hopper DVR.
It is a beautiful product, of course, and (to a limited demo) seemed to bounce around different devices, applications and services for the content much easier than the previous generation of remotes.
That said, Ray device probably be difficult to sell to consumers at $ 199. This is the price of super remote Ray will pre-order today, but it comes with free shipping.
