Did You Just Get a Twitter EMail To Inform You That Your Account Has Been Locked? You are not alone - not at all .
There seems to be a massive spike in the number of users complain about their accounts are blocked at the moment.
He does not know if this is intentional on the part of Twitter, or if it's an automated tool becomes a little overzealous.
Update : It was the last. Twitter is currently working on the issue.
Many users are assuming that this is because they "follow back." - Meaning that they quickly (and usually automatically) follow those who follow the Done right, it is a way to increase your number monitoring often artificially and probably unnecessary.
Others, however, argue that they have done nothing wrong - they just tweet a lot.
The email from Twitter to users said that every locked account "seems to have an automated behavior that violates the Rules of Twitter," and that the lock has been set up to "protect Twitter unauthorized connections."
Given the recent increase in large account hijackings end - including its own CFO of Twitter, Anthony Noto - it is likely that Twitter went to work in a hurry its automated account moderation tools. Climb sensitivity too high too fast, and it's easy to imagine many accounts is not so guilty if learned and locked by mistake.
We reached out to Twitter for an overview of what is happening and will update this post if we hear back.
Update: Twitter wrote:
We are aware of an issue where some users are unable to Twitter and received a notice that they have been locked out.
Our engineers are currently investigating "

Update # 2: About an hour after the first hit locks, Twitter said the problem should be solved. We still see lockouts reports trickle, but they should begin gradual decrease.
